I Can. I Will. Become part of the ABC Volunteer Corps! We have lots of both “big” and “bite-sized” opportunities for folks who want to engage and support our Scholars. WE NEED YOU! All are welcome. For further information, contact our Barbara Briggs, our Executive Director, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 215-770-4015.
Special Activities and Projects
ABC Strath Haven also welcomes help with events and other one-time and ongoing activities. Do you have a skill or interest you’d love to share? Crafts, photography, music, esports, outdoor exploration, cooking —the possibilities are boundless. Or maybe your workplace could provide an internship.
Each Scholar is matched with a host family, with whom they spend every other Sunday. A Scholar’s host family can be a valuable link between the Scholar and our community. The bonds formed between Scholars and host families can be lasting.
A Scholar’s academic advisor gets to know the Scholar well and serves as an “academic parent” throughout the high school years, advocating for the Scholar with Strath Haven and communicating regularly with resident directors, tutors, and parents.
Volunteers serve as drivers for Scholars, who are not permitted to have cars while in residence here but still need transportation from time to time to medical appointments, extracurricular activities, and the like.
Board of Directors
The Board manages the Strath Haven chapter of the A Better Chance program and is responsible for hiring and overseeing staff, the budget, long-range planning, fundraising, events, the maintenance and operations of the ABC house, recruitment and leadership of volunteers, and above all, selecting the Scholars and ensuring their well-being and success.
